PLUS: Microsoft Racks Up Big AI Spending Spree
What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. RIP incandescent light bulbs. You had a hell of a run.
Here's the bright side:
Microsoft answers for its spending
Big Youtuber wants to replace himself with AI
Meta launches generative AI for music
And Tinder wants to help make your profile
Microsoft’s latest capex reports remind us of an important lesson: AI innovation comes at a steep cost.
The AI leader’s expenditures rose passed $10.7B in Q2, which is capitalists’ speak for they spent ten crap tons on software and firmware for their company.
No one is shocked that they spent this much money. After all, AI development is rising fast, and Azure needs to keep pace with demand.
This brings us to the fascinating point of conflict.
Despite all that spending, Microsoft is still in the hole regarding GPU supply.
That’s why they discussed a rent share agreement for spare GPU space with Oracle and paid emerging competitors like Lambda Labs and CoreWeave for server space.
Nvidia’s GPUs are as rare as gold.
The waitlist for GPUs at every prominent cloud service provider is skyrocketing.
This trend will continue until someone finds a way to train AI models efficiently. So Microsoft, Google, and others will need to find a way to mature their AI investments fast to bring balance back to the force, er, I mean finances.
That won’t happen till early 2024. And even that is an optimistic viewpoint.
Now I know some of our readers work directly for these teams and have more insights, so they’ll correct me if I’m wrong.
But the point remains: pushing AI forward means burning cash in the short-term while GPU production catches up.

The video above is Jordi Van Den Bussche, aka Kwebbelkop, only it’s not. It turns out the YouTuber gamer is replacing himself with AI.
Van Den Bussche, like many YouTubers, witnessed burnout firsthand from trying to satisfy YouTube’s algorithm. It’s a common point of contention for modern Youtubers.
That’s why he and a team of developers worked on a new AI toolset that fills in for creators.
Van Den Bussche trained a model on his videos and his voice so that it could replicate his content. And now, he’s offering the same models to other influencers.
But don’t think that means digital YouTubers will be everywhere tomorrow.
The tech behind this is hard to scale at his current price point and needs more revisions before all 500 waitlisted creators use it.
In the meantime, watch his video and try to tell me it doesn’t feel like some amorphous blob trying to claw its way out of the uncanny valley.
I’m impressed, but I don’t think this content is for everyone.
