🤖 What Happened to AI Hype?

PLUS: Startups Find A New Angle

What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. We’re the Scooby Snack that helps you solve those AI mysteries.

Let’s split up and search for clues:

  • Vox argues that the AI boom is over

  • A new startup helps companies figure out AI utility

  • Your fantasy football team could use some AI help

  • Companies use AI for ads now because it’s inexpensive

Think about how you felt about AI one year ago.

Do you remember how excited you were? Were there things you didn’t know about AI that made it exciting? I’m sure for some of you; it felt like singularity was right around the corner.

Well, if you listen to Vox, then the good times are over. The usage of Generative AI tools is declining. Innovation and new models aren’t coming to save the day, either.

We witnessed an AI boom this past year that feels like it’s slowing down.

It’s hard to argue with how people feel, but I’m not buying this narrative. AI is doing fine if you compare the atmosphere to what’s happening with NFTs and the metaverse.

Companies are stretching their legs and unveiling novel solutions to complex problems (more on that in the small news section), and researchers are reorienting around this reality.

There’s daily news about AI advances, but the negative headlines and struggles make it feel like the hype is dying. We’re guilty of this.

When you reflect on past newsletter headlines, how many feature problems about LLMs and startups? Yeah, too many.

Meanwhile, OpenAI, Google, Meta, Anthropic, and so many other companies are innovating and advancing the mission. We’re still in an AI spring. Winter isn’t coming for us yet.

We’ve seen AI winters, which are much slower than this.

Many conflicts are arising, and organizations are forming to slow development. Yes, usage is declining for SOME apps, but I promise new people are always discovering AI.

Don’t give up on the boom; more great news is coming.

Generative AI has landed in the data domain with a bang.

Einblick is the AI-native data notebook that can write and fix code, create beautiful charts, build models, and much, much more–all with as little as one sentence. (pretty cool right?) This is all made possible by their AI agent, Einblick Prompt.

We all know the data analytics and data science process can be a real slog. From debugging syntax errors, to searching through documentation and Stack Overflow threads…it can be a real pain. That’s all before you even get to extracting meaningful insights from your data!

Luckily, Einblick Prompt removes all the tedious parts of the process by leveraging generative AI. Since Prompt is built into every data notebook, you don’t have to copy-paste any code, or switch between tabs. The code is generated straight into the notebook, and you can run it and test it immediately.

And the best part?

Prompt is context-aware. That’s right. You don’t have to type paragraphs of information about your data to get decent results. Prompt will infer which table to use, which libraries to import, and what data types are in your dataset. Plus, if there are any errors, you can debug instantly with the “Fix with Prompt” button.

Don’t take our word for it though. Try it out yourself–it’s free. (You don’t even need your own OpenAI API key–Einblick’s got you covered.)

Arthur is an AI startup you need to know about, and here’s why:

Hundreds of execs want their company to adopt Large Language Models so that they can keep up with the rapid movement of AI. But it’s a gamble to choose one because every model is different.

The company that helps other enterprises make the right choice will be compensated well.

Enter Arthur, the ultimate middleman in this scenario. They put all the popular models through rigorous testing to help companies determine which is right for them.

They found that GPT-4 is the best option for most, but Claude-2 tends to handle more requests with fewer hallucinations. So keep that in mind if you consider adding AI to your site/product.

One startup will not solve this problem. There’s an opportunity to dive deeper into what AI models work best for different industries.

Arthur is thriving, but they took one angle on a complex problem.

Keep an eye on this space because the first movers are starting to get going, but there’s a lot of demand here that needs to play out.
