What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. Unlike Microsoft, Google, and Apple, we do not have a special AI event coming up.

Here's what is on tap today:

  • Microsoft showcased New Bing and GPT-powered Edge

  • Google is next today with their big event

  • We finally know what happened to Nothing Forever

  • You’ve got an avalanche of headlines and product launches to look forward to below

Microsoft Didn’t Come to Play Games

For one hour and ten minutes yesterday, all eyes in tech were on Microsoft. The company rolled out a few new features to incorporate OpenAI’s tech into Bing AND Edge, their internet browser.

Here’s the nitty gritty:

  • All the execs framed the new tool as your “AI copilot”

  • New Bing (yes, a shiny new nickname) will give you more accurate standard search answers and better personal responses to prompts

  • Edge is also getting an upgrade with an AI extension that can react directly to the page your on

  • The new features incorporate Microsoft’s Prometheus model too, and the chat AI will now provide relevant, up-to-date responses

You can find the waitlist here, and if you’re on a PC, moving up the waitlist is possible by setting Bing as your default search engine. Also, anyone can download the Bing App to move up in line.

I love all the shiny new features to look at, but one small turn of phrase has everyone a bit confused.

Why Did They Not Mention GPT4?

Even Sam Altman refused to say GPT4 powered this. They called it “a new, next-generation LLM” that powers this New Bing and Edge extension instead.

Is GPT4 integrated with Bing or not? Why are they so coy about this update?

On top of that oddity, a small part of the presentation discussed the tools' safety system. Sarah Bird, a Progam Manager at Microsoft, said, "Early red teaming showed that the model could help plan attacks.”

Clearly, they will work hard to ensure this new chat AI and search companion is not prompted to say harmful things or help plan violent acts. The fact that they even discussed the chances shows they have confidence in their fine-tuning for safety.

Overall, the event was a huge success for the team, and it even had me considering downloading Edge.

I never thought I’d type that sentence, but here we are.

AI-generated art by StoriesForKids

StoriesForKids.ai allows parents and kids to read and create together. You can take real-life situations and turn them into fantastical stories.

What do you think is the biggest predictor of academic success in reading for your child?

It’s not:

  • Flashcards

  • Workbooks

  • Fancy private schools

  • And it’s definitely not that toy you took the batteries out of three weeks ago

The biggest factor is mom or dad taking the time to read with their child daily—a simple and elegant solution to spend more time with your kid and give them tools for success.

I know I would not be writing this newsletter if my dad and I read stories together every night. StoriesForKids.ai is taking that moment and sprinkling some AI magic on it.

Their product allows you to make countless stories with your child, so you always have ideas. Make them sports stars, mighty heroes, or caring friends. There are no limits to their imagination, and stories should reflect.

Now, consider how much the average parent spends on children's books in a year. Books that will get snapped, torn, and stained before you get to the final page. Those costs go to near zero.

Instead, using this offer, you can get StoriesForKids.ai for less than $50 a year. An infinite library tailored to your family’s interest is a click away.

Well, This Took a Turn

We featured a Twitch stream called “Nothing Forever” a week ago in our Good Content section. News of the stream caught on a few days later, and their subscriber count was rocketing toward the moon.

Then everything came crashing back to earth.

Twitch suspended the account for 14 days after Larry Feinberg, the AI equivalent to Jerry Seinfeld in the show, made transphobic and homophobic remarks during a set.

Obviously, The Punishment was Necessary

But, I want to be clear: the AI show makers emphasized that the remarks do not reflect their personal views and give more context to what caused this snafu.

Without going into explicit detail, Larry is speaking to an empty audience during this part. That was not normal.

He remarks on the lack of crowd and then discusses jokes he thinks about doing; that’s where the transphobic comments come in before stating he won’t do them. He makes a final comment about the empty audience before the screen cuts out.

None of that was like anything the stream had done before, so what gives?

According to the admins, there was an outage with OpenAI’s GPT-3 DaVinci Model. They didn’t want to suffer any downtime, so they switched to Curie.

Curie is an older model and did not account for the content moderation tools in place in Davinci. Hence, the empty audience and inappropriate jokes.

We can assume “Nothing Forever” will return after the suspension, something the original Seinfeld could never have done after something like this.

What shocked me the most was that Larry Feinberg got the show suspended, not Kakler, the show’s version of Kramer. Who would have seen that coming?

Good Content, Trivial Titanic

Watch out! Iceberg (lettuce) ahead! Gosh, I hope it’s been enough time, so this joke does not come across as mean-spirited. I know the Titanic was a tragedy, but this is so absurd. I love it.
