🤖 Hate Slack? ChatGPT Might Help
PLUS: Getting Started On An AI Startup
What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. It’s International Women’s Day today. Let the women in your life know that you appreciate them.
Here are the stories my mom would read:
Slack & OpenAI team up to add ChatGPT to your work channel
We take a look at starting an AI project
Robotic companies are hiring
South Park’s next episode: ChatGPT, Dude
SLACK ADDS A CHATGPT INTEGRATION SO WE CAN ALL WASTE MORE TIME IN THEIR APP
Salesforce announced they're teaming up with OpenAI to put ChatGPT into your company’s Slack. Seriously, ChatGPT talking to itself is now the new company standard.
Since plenty of startups started making widgets for this use case, it makes sense that the company would try to cut off those tools' advancement.
The new ChatGPT integration will:
Summarize meetings/huddles
Help search the chat history and company knowledge base for information
Craft messages to respond to co-workers.
Does any of that make Slack more tolerable?
I don’t know about you, but the constant cascade of questions in Slack seems to happen right as I get into a flow. ChatGPT is not going to fix this anytime soon.
More efficient messaging does not mean less messaging.
The exact opposite is true. We will find ourselves in deeper conversations with co-workers as we spit automated replies at each other until the heat death of the universe.
The integration will also focus on making the ChatGPT replies more formal and business-focused. So say goodbye to the authentic conversation and hello to all the tedious water cooler talk.
Not to mention the meeting summaries and search functions will keep you on Slack even longer now.
I’m not trying to sh*t on Salesforce. They are trying to introduce AI to many slow-moving companies, which is commendable, but everything about this feels lackluster.
So, what’s the point? AI will make us all better at our jobs and give us the freedom to pursue the most important responsibilities at work.
The initial details surrounding this SlackGPT tool are the exact opposite.
It doesn’t help me connect with co-workers on an important task or get me off Slack any quicker. ChatGPT does not solve every issue.
This conundrum is a Slack problem rather than a ChatGPT problem. Fixing their bad habits will take more than a PR announcement and a quick widget.
AI STARTUPS ARE PICKING UP PACE, BUT THEY NEED TO BUILD THE RIGHT WAY

85% of AI projects fail to reach production. A recent TechCrunch+ article led off with that factoid, which blew me away.
Look two sections below this one; you’ll see a laundry list of new AI tools launched recently.
How are they making it when others fail?
I am stealing a Christina Melas-Kyriazi (partner at Bain Capital Ventures) quote to explain:
“If ChatGPT is the iPhone, we’re seeing a lot of calculator apps.”
Many of these new products use APIs from other successful models, but that won’t be enough in the long run.
You need to do the hard work to create a successful AI company. That same TC+ article details how the model is only part of the equation.
It’s the data that matters.
Without the proper planning, integrating AI automation into your product flow can sink you before you ever reach pay dirt.
I’ve spoken with over 3,000 early-stage startups, and I can promise you the best founders know this. They start with a manual process focusing on quality data collection. Then they make a model.
AGI and the future will come off the sweat equity put in by companies like that. So here’s what you can do to support:
1/ Seek quality AI tools and be a fan.
Oh, look, you’re doing that right now by subscribing to this newsletter. Great job :)
2/ Invest in AI startups you believe in.
Okay, this one is a little harder. You need tons of money in the bank to support AI this way. *Sigh* Maybe one day?
3/ Build the tools you want to see.
Being a founder is not for everyone. However, if you know AI can solve a problem, you can make it happen. So please message me when the product launches, and we will get it in the newsletter, okay?
No matter what step you pick, know that an excellent AI idea gets started every day.
We’ll be here, cheering every step along the way.
