What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. Black Mirror season 6 is coming soon. I hear it’s going to be a docuseries now.

Here's what’ll blow your mind:

  • A developer found a way to give out GPT-4 for free

  • Palantir scares the sh*t out of us

  • Apple is launching a health coach powered by AI

  • A look at where Bing Chat is headed

A FOUND EXPLOIT HELPS A DEVELOPER PROVIDE GPT-4 FOR FREE

GitHub user xtekky wants anyone to be able to try GPT-4.

Their noble crusade pushed them to craft GPT4free, a repository that allows computer-savvy people unlimited access to OpenAI’s latest model.

You can also access GPT-3.5, but ChatGPT already provides that for free, so maybe don’t try that one. The risk is not worth the reward.

That’s right; there is a risk to all this.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch or free access to GPT-4, so who’s paying the bill?

It turns out the developer reverse-engineered APIs from other sites. Don’t ask me how; we don’t have enough space to explain.

Whatever process the computer science student went through tricks the model into charging You.com and others under their API keys.

Doing that is against OpenAI’s terms of service and feels like the 10-year-old who charges a bunch of Fortnite skins on their parent’s card.

Don’t be that person if you can help it.

You should support open-source developers, and everyone deserves access to GPT-4. But tricks like this are going to get squashed.

In a way, it feels like karma. OpenAI closed off access to GPT-4 and refused to spill the beans. They forced people’s hands here.

A robin hood-like developer was bound to come along at some point. The question is how long they’ll be able to maintain this setup before the lawyers come knocking.

PALANTIR WANTS AI TO HELP FIGHT WARS

You know Palantir from meme stock mania, but the company’s purpose is to handle data and sensitive information for intelligence agencies and military operations.

Their latest product, Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), enables LLMs to integrate with a classified intelligence chain.

Sounds innocent enough.

We want governments to use AI models without fear of who may find their information. But watching this demo made me uneasy.

That’s sophisticated AI deciding how to carry out a military operation. Uh, raise your hand if you don’t want these models choosing that for us.

It’s a demo. You don’t need to take the whole video as gospel, but AIP is more than a clever way to keep confidential data private.

Where’s the line between “AI can’t provide legal advice” and “AI is carrying out drone strikes”?

I haven’t told you the worst part.

Palantir isn’t developing its own LLM for this. Clients can add AIP to whatever open-source model they decide to use. LLaMA could carry out military operations, not GPT-4.

AI is improving daily, but you can’t trust it not to hallucinate. I don’t care how sophisticated Palantir’s approach is; you don’t fix that issue with a platform like that.

Yet, Palantir emphasized adding a human touch during the demo. Let’s hope it stays that way.
