GOOGLE GOES ALL-IN ON AI

Frank’s RedHot has a tagline, “I put that sh*t on everything,” it kept popping into my head while I watched Google’s I/O keynote. 

It was as if every section and speech from the event paraphrased the hot sauce brand by saying, “AI: we put that sh*t in everything.”

The executives at Google mentioned AI once every minute (we didn’t do the math, but that’s what it felt like), and every presentation was dripping with a “we’re going so fast” energy.

They announced PaLM-2 to kick things off as Alphabet’s response to GPT-4. This Large Language Model packs better performance in logic & reasoning and comes in various sizes.

The smallest version of PaLM-2, Gecko, is small enough to run on your phone. That’s wild!

So if you still don’t have access to GPT-4, then Bard is worth trying since it’s accessible to everyone now and powered by this new model. And, yes, their Bard segment admitted that the first version was terrible while promising a few improvements you can try now.

Here’s the rest we don’t have time for:

TRANSFORMERS AGENT IS THE LATEST INNOVATION FROM HUGGING FACE

The team at Hugging Face keeps dropping huge updates.

Transformers Agent is the latest announcement, leaving developers sprinting for the Google Colab link.

Hugging Face is a technical AI company, so explaining this new tool can get complicated fast and leave you looking at the back of your eyelids.

Let’s try to avoid that outcome.

The agent is the AI that takes action. The transformers are any Large Language Model that you connect to it. It’s like babyAGI and AutoGPT—it prompts itself for tasks.

What’s unique about the new Hugging Face agent is the way it uses tools.

For example, if you want it to create an image, then it accesses the image generator tool you provide and makes it.

Interacting through Python code makes that possible, but that’s not an exclusive trick.

Instead, it helps to think of the Transformers Agent as Inspector Gadget with a Swiss Army Knife hand and helicopter hat. If you make the tool, it will use it while reasoning like other AI agents.

The implications are bewildering.

The reason developers are rushing to work with this is collaboration. Anyone who builds a tool for this agent is also letting other people use it.

The more we all create on Hugging Face for this agent, the more things it can access. 

The only limit is our imagination.

It’s like Rogue from X-Men or something (that was the last metaphor, I swear).
