100,000+ CHATGPT CREDENTIALS STOLEN IN A HACK

We’ve got terrible news. Bad guys have been getting their hands on ChatGPT account info. 

That's a lot of people who can't chat with their favorite AI. 12,632 of those stolen accounts are from India, the country that took the biggest hit by far.

Group-IB, a company that monitors cyber crimes, spotted this information on sale on the dark web (the seedy, hidden parts of the internet where illegal stuff happens). They say most accounts for sale appeared in May 2023.

The areas that got hit the worst were in the Asia-Pacific region.

India, Pakistan, Brazil, Vietnam, Egypt, the US, France, Morocco, Indonesia, and Bangladesh have also had a lot of ChatGPT account credentials stolen. Cyber villains, Raccoon, Vidar, and RedLine, are the main suspects behind this cyber theft.

The thing with these information stealers is that they're sneaky and smart. They can take passwords, credit cards, and even stuff from your cryptocurrency wallets (if you're into that).

Once they have this info, they sell it on those dark web markets.

Picture the repercussions: You're using ChatGPT at work. You're sharing private conversations or using it to help with your company's unique code. The standard setting for ChatGPT keeps all those chats.

So, if these bad guys get your account, they could get all kinds of meaningful, secret stuff.

How can we stop this from happening? You've gotta be smart with your passwords and turn on two-factor authentication.

In the meantime, OpenAI said this problem comes from malware on people's computers, not from any issue with their systems. They're looking into the exposed accounts and reminding everyone to use strong passwords and only download software they know they can trust.
