🤖 Do Better Than ChatGPT
PLUS: Google Reinvents How We Shop Online
What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. It’s all fun and games until ChatGPT starts pining for the old days of vinyl and avocado toast.
Here's what’s hip:
We look at ChatGPT & original thought
Google Shopping gets an important AI update
Google unveiled a ton of AI features actually
YouTube data helped train GPT-4(?)
YOU ARE NOT CHATGPT; REMEMBER THAT
WIRED published an article about a class trying to solve a leadership problem. That exercise sounds unrelated and boring, but hear me out.
The professors who wrote the article paint a picture of a class going through the motions. Don’t worry about the question or the discussion. You can get those details here if you want.
No one was offering solutions. That’s the point.
They sounded like buzzword generators reciting text from their assigned readings. So the instructors gave ChatGPT the same prompt to see what it came up with.
It’s around this time that you assume the AI found the perfect, actionable solution, and the class celebrated and sang Kumbaya together. But you’d be wrong.
Sure, we expect AI to provide valuable solutions to our daily problems, but this was a novel problem that required a detailed response. Instead, ChatGPT became a buzzword generator that pulls info from other people’s assigned reading.
So now we’re stuck, right?
At first, the class mocked ChatGPT, but then the realization hit them. The reality stung, and the class began to argue about their lack of solutions.
At that moment, authentic, unusual solutions popped up, and the people in the room became people instead of walking textbooks. Original thought entered the room, carried by the welcoming wind of change.
ChatGPT is basic. Know that and harness it.
You use the model for reference, quick questions, and help to generate basic writing. But don’t pretend that it’s capable of imagination. The tech is not there yet.
We’re human. That means we’re unpredictable and unique.
So, lean into that notion if you want to stand out and work with AI instead of for it.
You’ll surprise yourself.

GOOGLE WANTS YOU TO LIKE THE WAY YOU LOOK…
…But they want you to guarantee it.

The company announced a hoard of AI offerings today, but one headline stood out above the crowd (for the rest, you can scroll below this).
Google Shopping is introducing a new way to test clothes before buying them. A Diffusion Model powers the technology, but Alphabet didn’t name the exact one they plugged into this product.
Still, the logic behind this tool is fascinating.
Let’s say you want a top from H&M (the feature only works with select brands and clothes at launch), but the model in the photograph doesn’t represent you. That could be for several reasons, like skin tone, hair type, ethnicity, or body shape.
The point is the model doesn’t tell you what to expect if you try on that same top.
The new AI tool lets you click that model and pick a new one that matches you. The AI model learns how to create realistic images by removing random pixels and adding them back.
This process allows the model to show how the clothing will wrinkle, drape, fold, cling, and stretch on different body types.
The best part is the models you see are real humans. They aren’t avatars, so the brands aren’t replacing workers. If anything, they’re expanding their influence.
We talk a lot about bias in AI, but this use case highlights how researchers can reflect a more diverse viewpoint and broaden inclusion.
