🤖 From DALL-E to health genie

Using generative AI to help cure diseases

This is Inclined.ai, the daily AI newsletter that packs more value than a Costco hotdog (yum!).

In today's edition:

  • DALL-E, a key piece to groundbreaking medical treatments

  • Six startups that could rival OpenAI

  • The hottest launches, headline roundup, and who's hiring

It's a Tuesday; no time to waste.

DALL-E, the digital health genie

DALL-E and its ilk may be best known for creating cute pictures of teddy bears riding skateboards, but the art generator also has the potential to change the world of medicine.

For those not in the know: DALL-E is a tool that conjures up images based on written descriptions, kind of like a digital genie.

Scientists at the University of Washington plan to use the technology to rapidly design new proteins that could lead to groundbreaking medical treatments. Using the same techniques that DALL-E uses to generate art, scientists are creating blueprints for new proteins.

Now, you might be thinking, "What are proteins and why should I care?"

Proteins are like the unsung heroes of our bodies, performing tasks like aiding in digestion and transporting oxygen. By rapidly prototyping new proteins that don't occur naturally, researchers can improve our ability to fight diseases like cancer and do things that our bodies wouldn't have been able to do on their own.

Using AI to design these proteins is a game-changer, allowing to more quickly and successfully build these complex molecules.

"What’s exciting isn't just that they are creative and explore unexpected possibilities, but that they are creative while satisfying certain design objectives or constraints. This saves you from needing to check every possible protein in the universe."

Jue Wang, Researcher at the University of Washington

Who are OpenAI's rivals?
