DID OPENAI MESS WITH CHATGPT THE OTHER NIGHT?

On Monday, a few Reddit users reported that OpenAI blocked the ability to sign up for ChatGPT Plus. Then, other posts poured in, stating that GPT-4 wasn’t working for them.

By Tuesday, a new popup started appearing on ChatGPT, mentioning error reports and an active investigation.

What gives?

On the surface level, it appears the sheer volume of users is stress-testing OpenAI’s ability to handle the capacity overload in real time. I’m picturing their entire team looking like Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man holding back that runaway train.

As of this morning, OpenAI resolved the problem. We even double-checked the reports and could not replicate the reported errors.

The only mishap was one brief issue with GPT-4, where the site told us the response failed to generate due to a surge in requests. After a quick “regenerate response,” we resolved the issue.

There’s a deeper issue that’s still lurking under the radar.

You can’t role-prompt with ChatGPT like before. We can’t even make some of our older prompts work now.

For example, you might recall the salesperson role we made for our interactive game post. The only way that prompt works now is in legacy mode.

This change was deliberate and part of a broader effort to curtail misuse on the platform.

DAN is a role-based prompt, and those prompts often create the most problematic outputs.

By the way, it’s not a personal issue. A few posts and comments are starting to hit Reddit that say the same thing.

CEREBRAL VALLEY IS A HOTBED FOR AI ACTIVITY

Prompt: San Francisco’s Hayes Valley Style: GTA cover art

San Francisco is back? Maybe, or, at the very least, their PR team deserves a raise.

Hayes Valley, a neighborhood of Lower Haight in San Francisco, is now called Cerebral Valley by the tech crowd. The area is rich in AI happy hours, hackathons, and the recent Cerebral Valley Summit.

TechCrunch reporter Natasha Mascarenhas went to that event in the neighborhood and found a sh*tload of builders vying for funding and growth.

One thing is for sure; AI is the burning hot center of startups.

The buzz of AI at the center of tech’s favorite city is drowning out all the noise in the area. You're falling behind if you’re not building something with artificial intelligence or machine learning.

At least, that’s the message Cerebral Valley is sending.

Do you buy that? We’re doubtful.

The original Silicon Valley nomenclature came from a distinct regional advantage. Meanwhile, the hype here feels like it is happening everywhere, not just in San Francisco.

However, there is a noticeable uptick in AI-centered conferences and Hackathons. These are worth checking out, and Cerebral Valley is hosting more of these events than any other neighborhood in the US.

The jury is still out on how valid the hype is for this tiny spot in The Bay. But it’s worth checking your local events page to see if you have any new AI events near you.
