  • You can find AI spam with one phrase

  • OpenAI now lets you delete chat history

  • Republicans imagine a dystopia with AI’s help

HUGGING FACE MAKES THEIR MOVE AGAINST OPENAI

HuggingChat is the newest LLM on the scene, but a slick interface and modest performance won’t force OpenAI into a code red anytime soon.

Open Assistant powers this conversational AI, which means open-source backers are celebrating another win on their scoreboard. More and more companies are adopting community-driven AI models instead of paying OpenAI for an API key.

It’s a trickle compared to the gushing waterfall that is OpenAI. But take the W, okay?

HuggingChat doesn’t stand out from its peers.

The chatbot will hallunicate. It can code and answer complex questions, but none of that feels novel anymore. The whole experience is sterile and safe.

Do you like ChatGPT? Great, you don’t need to switch.

Are you looking for an alternative? HuggingChat is one of the best options for ease of use and anonymity.

Open Assistant providing backend support is the bigger story. LAION is the company behind this project. You know them from Stable Diffusion—they created the data set that Stability AI uses.

Hugging Face picking them over a sea of LLaMA replicates proves their quality in a tightly packed space.

Many more models will emerge as the push for open-source alternatives speeds up. So, who they trust with their architecture matters.

Give Hugging Face and LAION credit. They weren’t first, and they’re not shattering expectations; however, seeing a large swath of the AI community fight for transparency and user trust is exciting.

AS AN AI LANGUAGE MODEL, I CAN’T WRITE YOU A HEADLINE ABOUT AI SPAM

Prompt: a crowd of bots Style: Pencil Sketch

ChatGPT came out in November. Since then, GPT bros and online scammers have found clever ways to turn that technology into bots and grifts.

Lucky for you, there’s a way to spot the laziest attempts at this farce.

Daniel Feldman, a security engineer, was the first to mention that the phrase “As an AI language model” is cropping up all over the internet.

Go to Twitter or Google and type in the phrase. You’ll be inundated with a swarm of low-quality posts and blogs.

All of that wasted botting goes to show that you can help make people more efficient using AI, but you can’t account for laziness or incompetence.

But wait, there’s more!

Another phrase on social platforms and in Amazon reviews is “regenerate response.” It’s a tell-tale sign that the person copied and pasted their text from ChatGPT.

So, do we finally have a way to spot AI-generated text?

No, only the most obtuse, generic scams and spams forget to remove that text or create bade prompts for their bots. Most AI texts live among us without us knowing, like a Skrull invasion (Marvel nerds will get that).

Until watermarks and detection software catch up to the pace set by ChatGPT, this fun trick is all we got.

Yelp and Amazon are responding to the reports by removing those reviews, and sites are flagging these generic phrases more often now.

Still, the best hustlers out there know how to avoid that pitfall and are finding new ways to use AI without human detection.

Keep a watchful eye out and be grateful we have this moment when we can detect AI content.
