Microsoft and OpenAI Better Move Fast

Baidu, China’s search engine company, announced that it would launch its own AI chatbot in March of this year. Is that quick or slow?

We can’t say for certain, but you should know that this is a campaign to integrate the service with their search tooling. 

Microsoft is toying with adding ChatGPT to Bing, but they haven’t given us a date for that launch. We’re watching the slow roll of corporate molasses in real time.

Baidu is Moving Fast, but that Doesn’t Matter Much

Google and Bing aren’t used inside China anyways. So, Baidu comes across like the kid on the playground playing by himself but bragging because he has the best toys.

You ignored that emotional bully back then, and you’ll likely ignore this one now.

However, this better spring Microsoft and Google into action. 

Like my desire for Bakugan back in my day, I need ChatGPT integrated with my search engine now, and I don’t want Chad, I mean China, beating us to the punch again.

Baidu CEO Robin Li said it best when he mentioned that generative AI is a “product that everyone needs.”

Amen to that.

The Update Aims to Set the Facts Straight

The team's short, short update came and went with a simple: "We’ve upgraded the ChatGPT model with improved factuality and mathematical capabilities."

That’s one sentence with a lot to unpack. You can ask it more logical questions, and it will answer them now and be correct more often.

For example, a basic logic puzzle like, “what two coins, when you put 'em together, make 30 cents, and one of them isn't a nickel?” should give you the right answer now. Also, you’re now my best friend if you got that reference. 

Fingers crossed, the new ChatGPT is right more often than a broken clock when you bully it into saying 2+2=5. It was a good joke, but like all memes before it, let’s put it to rest.

Time to find the next thing to nitpick in generative AI. I’m sure it won’t take long.
