🤖 AI Takes On A New Game

AND AI Might Be The Best Quarterback Alive

What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. [We’re a newsletter with all the humor of an early 2000s sitcom and no 30-minute runtime.

Here's How I Met Your Headlines:

  • AI changes how people watch the NFL

  • AI plays Pokemon for 50,000 hours

  • OpenAI gave up on an AI model

  • The US escalates the AI Chip War with China

There isn’t a massive overlap between AI enthusiasts and NFL fans.

I understand, but this story is too incredible not to talk about this morning. See, Amazon is changing the way football fans watch games on their TV.

Trust me when I say this view makes you feel like a pro quarterback.

There’s even a new feature where the AI identifies potential blitzing players and highlights them with a circle graphic on the screen. For the non-football fans, that’s hard to do for professionals and is a remarkable accomplishment.

But why should non-fans care?

Television and sports broadcasting is about to change forever. This technology can permeate into any sport that uses advanced analytics.

Okay, so now let’s imagine what this could do for entertainment in general. Yeah, Amazon is onto something here, guys. And it starts with an algorithm calling out blitzes before they happen.

One slight hiccup to mention:

We still don’t know how the black box works. Former NFL and college players oversaw the RLHF (reinforcement learning through human feedback) process, but we don’t understand why the model decides what it decides.

This is why a miraculous moment happened last Thursday when the AI spotted a player blitzing that seemed so unlikely that one of the creators thought it was malfunctioning; incredible.

There’s a game tonight. Check out Prime Vision if you want to see it live.

Do yourself a favor and watch this video.

I loved Twitch Plays Pokemon. When it came out, I was recovering from knee surgery. So I watched it for hours and remember a ton of fantastic moments.

That technological marvel brought a community together, and this story feels like a redux. A software engineer decided to push the envelope further and teach AI to play Pokemon independently.

The results are fascinating.

This video helps you learn a lot about how researchers train AI. It explains some basics of reinforcement learning and reward systems.

You get to watch an AI agent panic in a Pokemon center and steer clear after it learns that the PC takes away their Pokemon. Then, watch it stare at a lake instead of exploring Kanto.

Why? It’s all explained in the video, and I’d argue that the whole experience even teaches us about the human condition.

So check it out and let me know what you think!
