🤖 AI Enters Your Group Chat

AND Yepic Misjudges Their Plan For DeepFakes

What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. And if the Rolling Stones can release an album at their age, then you can make it through your meetings today. Trust me.

Here are some headlines that can give you some satisfaction:

  • Character.AI wants to entertain you

  • Yepic AI, a startup, breaks a pledge it made

  • Space Force reconsiders their AI use

  • Some analysts think AI is about to slow down

Your unread bubble for your group chat is about to explode.

Why? Because Character.AI plans to release real and fictional AI personas for their chat feature (and possibly as an integration with others).

That feature on its own isn’t what you’d call earth-shattering.

I can recall an old GroupMe feature that allowed you to add a Chat AI to your groups, but that was before anyone even knew what a transformer model was or how to perfect these models.

The novel aspect here is the flag that Character.AI wants to plant in the space. Their goal is to become THE place for AI entertainment.

And right now, it’s working.

They raised $200m at a $1B valuation because of their engagement time. People chat with their AI for long periods because of the value they bring.

They want to keep that goodwill going and find ways to grow it. Hence, the plan for sophisticated bots in your group chats.

Forbes used their demo to make AI Taylor Swift flirt with AI Travis Kelce, but there’s way more possible here. Though, I’ll admit, most of it’s fun and not super productive.

That’s how Character.AI likes it, though, and that’s okay with us, too.

Geez, this one is not a great look.

So, a company called Yepic AI wants to fight the good fight and make “good DeepFakes.” Okay, cool, but that’s a hard line in the sand and limits their ability to grow fast.

A core tenet of their tool is that they refuse to make DeepFakes of people without their consent. That’s a great idea in theory, but I am sure you know where this is going.

Yeah, Yepic screwed up big time.

Their PR team decided to make DeepFakes of journalists and send them videos to raise awareness for the startup. You can see what they were trying, but it's a terrible move for a company like this.

They made those videos without the reporter’s consent. It goes against what they stand for.

So, even when DeepFake companies try to do good, they still come out with a bit of a stink. It doesn’t seem like we’ll figure this out anytime soon, huh?
