🤖 AI Could End The Opioid Epidemic

AND Canon Has An AI Camera Coming

What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. A newsletter that’s the equivalent of crisp fall air and hot apple cider.

Here are the headlines (not crisp or hot, sorry):

  • AI could help end the opioid epidemic

  • Canon’s AI camera is coming

  • OpenAI reveals its intentions

  • Midjourney is legendary among AI enthusiasts and didn’t raise VC money

The health industry moves at a snail’s pace for a reason.

Caution persists in every aspect of medicine and care. A lawsuit threatens doctors, lurking in the corner, waiting for them to misstep.

It’s a harsh reality, but it’s a big reason technology is slowly permeating this field. You can’t move fast and break things when it comes to people’s lives.

AI is different.

Machine learning promises to assist in discovering new treatments to aid drug discovery and help manage the complicated logistics of hospitals. We’ve seen these headlines and can tell that the news is legit.

But there’s another problem in this field that AI can help fix: drug overdoses. It’s a tragic epidemic costing us more lives every year and likely impacting you or someone you know.

Drug usage is unpredictable and forces doctors and clinics into a reactionary position.

AI flips that script and gives organizations a chance to help people before they reach that grim moment and go off the deep end. It’ll require more data and fieldwork, but the end result would change lives.

Machine learning could predict if a patient is likely to relapse or find the most effective treatment plan for a recovering addict based on location.

And AI models can help us spot where fentanyl is coming into the US and monitor prescription orders for any abuse in the system.

See, the future of AI in medicine is bright, but to get there, we need to embrace the fight against the opioid epidemic. Otherwise, the tech we build is useless.

Data sustains this effort but requires embracing alternative methods for drug abuse and addiction treatment.

AI can’t do this alone.

Canon is working on an AI camera that seems too good to be true.

These are all rumors, but the chatter indicates Canon is leaping into the next age of photography. It’s the age of AI assistants built into the camera itself.

Here are the three rumored improvements:

1/ Framing Assist

The AI will help you compose better shots and try out new angles based on what you’re showing in the frame. So, no more askew photos or misaligned focus points in the family photo album.

2/ Instant Image Fix

The minute you snap a photo, the AI is working on the flaws. I’m sure this feature is something you can turn off if you prefer to spend time in Lightroom and Photoshop.

3/ Dynamic Motion Capture

Capturing objects in motion is now a breeze. The AI will determine the ideal settings to capture movement that balances quality and blur.

Do you think this is real?

If so, let us know what feature you’re looking forward to the most. And if you don’t care about photography, that’s cool, too.
