🤖 AI Could Help Cure Cancer

AND Nothing, Forever Is Not Going Well

What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. After much thought and consideration, I decided not to take the job at USA Today as their new Taylor Swift reporter. I will not be taking any questions.

We’re in our headlines era:

  • Did you forget about Nothing, Forever?

  • Moderna CEO sees AI as the key to cancer treatment

  • A big race to make the best AI detection tool is heating up

  • We have some articles that summarize the AI Forum

Let’s hit the rewind button to start your morning.

When we first started writing this newsletter (the OG days), I spotlighted a Twitch stream that was less than 24 hours old.

It was a Seinfeld parody called “Nothing, Forever.”

The media project provided commentary on the stagnant styling of 90’s sitcoms using AI to write the scripts and present the episodes. Shortly after we covered it, the stream went viral.

Then everything fell apart.

An error in the model caused an inappropriate joke to slip through the cracks and get the show temporarily banned from Twitch. The show went off the air after only two weeks.

That was our latest update, but the show is still around. “Nothing, Forever” returned in March for a new season. And that’s where things get weird.

See, dedicated viewers HATE the new season.

The creators took everything down to the studs and built it back up as a new show with no connection to the first attempt. Larry Feinberg, the Seinfeld-esque character, is nowhere to be found.

The blowback mimics the same outrage you see from fandoms that feel the writing is falling apart. Remember, this is a random project, yet people treat it like a real show.

That’s a wild reaction to a bunch of AI nonsense.

Odds are, the creators wanted to avoid lawsuits, and that’s why they changed everything for the second season. In an interview with 404 Media, they refused to disclose why the change happened.

Still, for a show we all thought was done and dusted, it’s surprising to see it cause this much of a stir and keep kicking.

Sometimes, we get so caught up in ChatGPT that we forget how much AI is involved in other fields.

For example, AI in the medical field is more prevalent than ever, and the developments there are wild. That’s why I wanted to highlight this interview with Moderna’s CEO.

In it, he details all the ways AI is helping advance medical research.

Did you know they made the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine without interacting with the virus? It was all done on a computer with the help of AI.

That mRNA breakthrough that helped us get through the roughest part of the pandemic is still making headway.

And their AI tooling is what’s leading that charge.

The hope is that AI can help develop new cancer treatments that help instruct cells to fight the spread without chemo. At least, that’s one idea they're pursuing at Moderna.

Regardless, the overall headline is that AI has been in medicine much longer than we realize, and every breakthrough in research helps other fields advance, too.

So much so that we may find a way to cure cancer with some help from artificial minds.
