🤖 AI Arms Race Heats Up
PLUS: AI ads are coming...
What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. Start your Monday with a BEC Bagel. Do yourself that favor.
Here's what you need to know before that:
Apparently, leaked images of GPT4 integrated with Bing were posted on Reddit
Google slapped down a fat stack of benjamins to support Anthropic’s development
AI-themed ads are starting, and it’s already annoying
You know who else loves AI? Cathie Wood
Prompt: The Arms Race Heats Up Style: Wayne Barlowe Cover Art
Don’t get it Twisted; the AI Race Started Long Ago
But it turns out ChatGPT was the first shot across the bow by OpenAI in a more recent pursuit of the public interest. A column by NYT’s Kevin Roose outlines many updates you’ve read about here with a deeper storyline.
To summarize, we’re in an AI Arms Race that started at the dawn of the internet, but ChatGPT kicks off a new, exciting chapter.
A chapter building quicker than anything we’ve ever seen in a work of fiction like a Song of Ice & Fire (where’s the next book, George?).
The freshest maneuvers by the largest tech armies have me amped:
Google invests $300M+ in Anthropic to support a generative AI competitor to OpenAI
Meta pushes to get their own products out for users
Apple’s Tim Cook even admitted that AI would play a major part in his company’s future
None of that Compares to the Weekend’s Biggest News
Word got out through r/singularity that Microsoft’s plans for GPT4 and Bing are taking shape. These leaked images give us an idea of what the integrated update will look like:
Let’s move past the “here’s why this is cool” or “here’s why this sucks” hot takes. You are capable of your own opinion there. I want to talk about why this matters.
We’re talking about Bing. For the love of God, when was the last time you wanted to know about Bing?
As a search trend (yes, I referenced Google Trends for this research), Bing has reached a new level since Microsoft first floated the idea of incorporating ChatGPT and GPT4 into their lagging search engine. People care again.
A race to be the AI innovator is heating up, and the next phase starts today.
That’s why Sam Altman calls for more regulations, and every tech company with some extra cash is making their own AI tools—being THE first-mover matters.
So, who will be the next “first” Google or Bing?
Let’s Toss it to Our Sponsor:
Getting a side-hustle launched can feel like a Herculean task. That's why I love Build and their fresh concept for the space!
Build is an online cohort and the world's only accelerator for Side Hustles. There's no other corner of the internet where you can learn from the top 1% of Hustlers while engaging with a top-tier community.
Whether you're a designer, developer, marketer, or PM, everyone who goes through their cohort ends up a builder. Their 4-week program is designed to help you launch through sprint goals, live learning with mentors, and community jam sessions.
I hope you got the part where this all happens in 4 weeks and is built into your schedule.
Side-hustles are a gateway to more opportunities like financial opportunities and career growth, making this an investment that pays you back 10x what you put into it.
If you're on the fence about launching your side hustle, take it from me: don't wait. Their next cohort starts February 11th, so now is the time to decide.
Don’t miss the best part. Selected Applicants from this offer will get a 50% scholarship. This is your inflection point.
It's time to build. Get started on your application here.
Oh god, the Advertisers are Swarming
Need evidence? Remember last week when we showcased this Instagram post where Tottenham did a ChatGPT-inspired recap of their transfer moves? It turns out it can get worst.
Oracle Red Bull Racing featured a fake “Chat-ORBR” graphic to help announce their livery. I wish I were kidding.
Take a look at the video. The silly promo starts at 36:22, but watch it only if you have a minute of your time to give. Or you can keep reading and trust me when I say it is cringe.
These two videos mark the very beginning.
The Super Bowl is Sunday, so expect Tom Foolery
Last year, the big game was inundated with ads from every major crypto company. Matt Damon told me to go full diamond hands into Bitcoin while I flew to Mars…or something? I don’t remember; that commercial was weird.
However, a few larger companies used the public interest around coins and NFTs to make weak correlations. The same thing will happen soon with AI.
Then, the actual AI tools will be fighting for eyeballs and spending to ensure you know why their option is better than ChatGPT. It won’t happen immediately, but that tidal wave of promos is incoming.
None of this is the end of the world. Things get annoying, but here’s what you need to look out for next.
One day, you’ll be on your social feed of choice, and an AI avatar of a customized M&M will show up and recommend a personal snack option it knows you will like.
You may avoid that sponsorship, MAYBE. However, try dodging the endless sponsored content offered by “free” AI chatbots that match prescripted answers to your prompt.
Everything is coming up ads. Be ready.
