🤖 Adobe Is Winning In Generative AI
PLUS: The Big News From Microsoft Build
What's up? You're reading Inclined AI. Read our newsletter to tune out your co-worker who uses the phrase “hump day” unironically.
Here's the straw that broke the camel’s back (does that make sense in this context?):
Adobe powers up Photoshop with AI tooling
Microsoft drops a slew of updates
BuzzFeed is diving deeper into AI content
Google tries to jazz up ads with AI
PHOTOSHOP JUST GOT A HUGE AI UPGRADE
Adobe is no slouch when it comes to AI tooling.
Subtle help from day-to-day AI tools helps creators every minute. You don’t realize it because we take things like autofill in After Effects for granted.
But this new update for Photoshop is a can’t-miss launch.
Adobe’s Firefly models pack a punch and are free of copyright material. That’s the good news, but the trouble was the limited ability to use them.
To fix that, Adobe handed beta users their generative AI tools on a silver platter by incorporating them into Photoshop. The results are stunning.
You can create a subject for your photo out of thin air or completely reinvent the style of your project, all from a text prompt. The squeal of delight coming from photo editors and graphic designers is audible.
They don’t need to worry about stealing other people’s work and don’t need to hop over to a new interface they’re unfamiliar with.
All the generative AI tools people need are now baked into Photoshop.
Of course, that sh*t ain’t free, and Adobe limits access. However, you can’t help but wonder if the price is worth it.
Every other image generator in the market can’t match Adobe’s distribution and flexibility. So this move can win the generative AI battle for them and keep them ahead of the newcomers.
But let’s see how the others respond before we count our chickens.

AI WARS: MICROSOFT STRIKES BACK
Microsoft Build went according to plan. They did not rock any boats, and no shocks lept off the screen. It seems that they wanted things to go that way.
Regardless, AI got top billing at this event. Like Google I/O and every other corporate conference this year, Microsoft couldn’t help but squeeze artificial intelligence into every tool possible.
Here’s the skinny:
1/ Bing is the default search engine for ChatGPT
Microsoft poured a ton of cash into OpenAI. That support means ChatGPT now uses Bing in their browser mode. In addition, every source cited by the AI model redirects you to Microsoft’s trailing search engine.
2/ Windows 11 is getting an AI Copilot
The demo was worth watching. You can watch them pull up the chat bar and get their setup ready through a conversation with Bing Chat.
It even pulled up a Spotify playlist, and here’s how they did that:
3/ Plugins now work across Bing Chat, too
All the plugins you use in ChatGPT are now available across their entire ecosystem in Bing Chat. So, for example, you can use the Instacart plugin before opening your browser.
4/ Microsoft Fabric is low-key AI friendly
Their team tucked some encouraging machine learning news into a demo of their new Microsoft Fabric governance and data tooling. The details are technical, but let’s try to keep this light.
In a nutshell, developers can train machine learning models on data more efficiently in Azure and get more insights into the AI models they’ve built.
A lot happened during the event, but none broke ground or made me want to switch from MacOS.
It was all even-keel. Whereas Google needed to play catchup, Microsoft just needed to keep pace.
They did that.
Let’s get some significant fresh updates that don’t feel like apparent moves to make because we can’t stress how underwhelming the whole event felt.
